A balcony on the east or west side is by no means as spoiled by the sun as on the south side. However, you do not have to do without picturesque flowers in the semi-shade. You can discover some of the most beautiful plants for the semi-shady window box here.

The balcony classic, the petunia, also thrives in semi-shade

A sea of blossoms in a semi-shady flower box - this is how it works

The following plants do not need a sunny location to put on their lush flowers:

  • Globe primrose (Primula denticulata): flowering period from March to May
  • Busy Lizzie (Impatiens walleriana): flowering period from June to September
  • Tuberous Begonia (Begonia × tuberhybrida): flowering period from May to the first frost
  • Petunias (Petunia): flowering period from June to October
  • Magic bells 'Million Bells' (Calibrachoa): flowering period from June to October
  • Loyal to men (Lobelia): Flowering period from May to October

Combine the annual summer beauties with perennials if you don't want to replace the entire planting every year. Wood anemone (Anemone nemorosa) and mountain cranesbill (Geranium nodosum) are ideal candidates for the flower box (€16.99) in partial shade.
