Hybrid teas should be fertilized twice a year. A third application of fertilizer is not necessary, but not harmful either. However, it should not be too late. This is important, otherwise the branches cannot properly lignify and can suffer from frostbite in winter.

The best way to administer the many nutrients that hybrid tea roses need is then:

  • fertilize with compost in March (slightly rake in)
  • end of May e.g. B. fertilize with special rose fertilizer (12.86€).
  • if necessary, fertilize again at the end of July to encourage reblooming

Do you have to water hybrid tea roses?

Hybrid teas, like other types of roses, do not need a lot of water. They have extremely deep roots and are therefore not constantly dependent on water from above. Roses should only be watered when it is dry and hot in summer. Watering twice a week is sufficient during such periods. But be careful: never water the leaves! This increases the risk of diseases.

How do you recognize an illness?

Depending on the variety, tea roses are considered to be relatively susceptible to disease. How to recognize the most common fungal diseases:

  • Powdery mildew: whitish coating on the upper side of the leaves
  • Blackspot: brown to black-violet spots on underside of leaf
  • Rose rust: yellow spores on underside of leaf, orange to brown spots on upper side of leaf

How to deal with sick plants?

If the hybrid tea is sick, all care and maintenance will not help. The affected parts must be removed! Take a pair of sharp rose scissors and cut off all diseased parts of the plant. Do not dispose of them in the compost heap, but in the household waste!

How do you cut hybrid tea correctly?

Hybrid teas should be pruned every year. Best time: When the first flower buds appear. Then the hybrid teas are cut back to 20 to 40 cm. In addition, in summer you should regularly cut off the faded flowers to below the underlying leaf.
