Pampas grass is very fast growing. In one gardening season, the bud sites of an adult plant can reach a good three meters in height. For this, the ornamental grass needs a lot of space and plenty of nutrients. The planting distance to other plants therefore plays an important role.

A planting distance of about one meter between each pampas grass is advisable

Maintain sufficient planting distance

So that the pampas grass can spread well and the decorative inflorescences can develop, keep a planting distance of 1.00 to 1.20 meters. Otherwise, the ornamental grass will crowd out smaller plants or not get enough nutrients themselves.

Even if you want to create a pampas grass screen, you should leave a meter of space between the ornamental grasses.

However, pampas grass is at its best when you plant it individually, for example as an eye-catcher on a large lawn.

tips

The best time to plant pampas grass is in the spring after the Ice Saints. Then the non-toxic ornamental grass has plenty of time to really settle in at the location.
