The buds have already opened in May and their delicate petals have unfolded. For several weeks, the buds looked amazing with their dazzling colors and shapes. But just because your ranunculus has now faded doesn't mean it needs to be disposed of now!

Ranunculus usually ends in bloom in mid-July

Blossom end - when?

Ranunculus usually anticipate their flowering end in July. Depending on whether the withered flowers have been removed regularly, the flowering period lasts longer or shorter. Some ranunculus are already so exhausted in June that they no longer bloom.

Delay the end of flowering…

Clever plant lovers don't give up that easily, but rather lengthen the flower. How it works? With these hints it should work:

  • Rinse faded flowers regularly
  • do not be sparing with fertilizer (once a week)
  • pour copiously
  • ensure cooler temperatures

Prepare faded ranunculus for the winter break

Even if you've done your best to prolong the flowering period, flowering will eventually come to an end. By the beginning of August at the latest, the last flowers have said goodbye. Now it's time for you to change your care.

On the one hand, all faded flowers should now be cut off. The leaves are now turning yellow and drying up. They too will be removed. The tuber draws the last nutrients from the plant parts. Therefore, you can continue fertilizing the plant until the leaves have yellowed.

Furthermore, watering should be reduced at the end of the flowering period. The soil no longer needs to be kept moist. In order to be well prepared for the winter period, it is advisable to let the ranunculus soil dry now and then. This is the signal for the tuber not to sprout any further.

tips

If your ranunculus does not flower at all, it may be because it is too dry.
