The snowball is relatively easy to care for and quite robust. This applies to most of the more than 100 different species in this genus. Many of them are hardy even in the Central European climate, others at least need protection from severe frost.

A disease can usually be recognized by the leaves

What pests or diseases does the snowball suffer from?

It is relatively rare for snowballs to be infested with leaf beetles, while aphids are somewhat more common, at least in some regions. The first sign of an infestation is often stunted leaf tips. If you react quickly, you can successfully prevent the pests from spreading.

How can I best protect my snowball bush?

As with all other plants, the best protection is good care. Because healthy plants are simply more robust. At the same time, you should deliberately settle beneficial insects such as lacewings, ladybugs and earwigs in your garden. For example, they eat aphids, so they can no longer damage your plants in the future.

How do I react to illnesses?

If you check your plants regularly, you can react quickly and remove diseased plant parts immediately. Cut off shoots with stunted leaves generously. Do not dispose of these shoots in the compost. You may be spreading disease germs to other plants.

If your snowball bush is infested with aphids, a strong jet of water may help with lighter infestations. If this is not enough, then do not immediately resort to chemical agents but first to soft soap (44.90€) and alcohol or make a nettle broth. It may not be too late to use beneficial insects either. You should definitely try it.

The essentials in brief:

  • prevent with good care
  • settle beneficial insects
  • Cut off and discard diseased plant parts
  • Soft soap or nettle broth against aphids

tips

Settle beneficial insects in your garden, which not only benefits your snowball bushes but also all other plants.
