Catalpa bignonioides, as the trumpet tree is called in botanical jargon, is widely used as an ornamental tree in gardens and parks in its homeland, the southeastern United States. In recent years, the deciduous tree, which can reach a height of up to 18 meters - under good conditions - has also been found more frequently in Europe.

The trumpet tree should best be planted in May/June

Plant the trumpet tree after the ice saints

The trumpet tree is usually delivered as already well-rooted container goods, which can basically be planted throughout the entire growing season. However, since young, freshly planted trees in particular need a lot of water and are also quite sensitive to heat and the associated drought, either late spring (i.e. when no more frosty nights are to be expected) or early autumn is recommended as the planting time . Both times leave enough time for the young trumpet tree to take root in the new location by next winter without being exposed to a particularly stressful situation due to the great heat.

Don't forget to water regularly!

Especially if you plant the trumpet tree in spring, you should water it regularly and vigorously - especially in hot and dry periods.

tips

Before planting, dip the root ball in a bucket of water and allow the roots to soak up the damp water.
