The ball trumpet tree (Catalpa bignonioides) is created by grafting on a conventional trumpet tree and stands out due to its naturally spherical growing crown. The very large, heart-shaped leaves do not sprout until very late, but they are an enchanting eye-catcher in the garden. The tree blooms little or not at all.

Ball trumpet tree is mainly cultivated for its leaves
The few white flowers of the ball trumpet tree appear in the months of June to July, although the flower can also fail from time to time. From this develop bean-shaped fruit capsules, up to 40 centimeters long, which remain on the tree over the winter and only open in the following spring. However, the ball trumpet tree is mainly cultivated for its decorative foliage. The late emerging leaves, reminiscent of elephant ears, turn a beautiful yellow in autumn and are shed before the first frost.
tips
In contrast to the trumpet tree, the ball trumpet tree cannot be propagated by seeds, cuttings or cuttings, but only by grafting.
