Beech trees are among the fast-growing trees. In nature they reach heights of 30 meters or even 45 meters in sheltered locations. A beech hedge must therefore be trimmed regularly so that it does not become too high and sprawling.

A beech hedge grows up to half a meter per year

Beech hedges grow very quickly

You can almost watch a red beech hedge grow. Their growth per year is 40 to 50 centimeters in height and width.

If you would simply let a beech hedge grow, you would have a hedge several meters high and wide within a few years.

Regular trimming of a beech hedge in spring and summer is therefore essential if you want to plant a dense privacy screen in the garden. Without pruning, the lower areas of the hedge become bare because there is no longer enough light.

tips

Solitary red beeches can live up to 300 years. In the red beech hedge they don't reach quite that old age, but they still grow for many decades.
