The right time to cut a copper beech depends on the budding and the legal regulations of the municipality. Pruning is prohibited almost everywhere during the bird breeding season.
Copper beeches should not be pruned in summerWhen can you cut copper beeches?
The radical pruning of a copper beech may only be carried out between September and March. In summer, the tree is used by birds as a breeding ground. Cutting is therefore prohibited outside of these times.
A radical pruning is best done before the leaves sprout in spring. A second topiary is performed in September or October.
Smaller topiary cuts are also possible in summer. But first check whether birds are still breeding in the tree and postpone cutting if necessary.
tips
Choose a day when the sun doesn't shine that much to cut the copper beech. A slightly gray but not rainy day is good. Even in frost, you must not shorten the copper beech.
