Small-leaved lime grows well in temperate climates and is absolutely hardy. Their light requirement is not as high as that of large-leaved lime. It is therefore also more common in northern and eastern Europe in mixed deciduous forests and as roadside planting.
Small-leaved lime thrives in both partial shade and full sunThe small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata) is a species of deciduous tree in the genus Linden in the mallow family. On the one hand, she loves warmth, on the other hand, she is absolutely frost-resistant. Compared to the summer linden, it needs less light. The distribution area of the small-leaved lime is very large, but its location requirements are rather low:
- partially shaded or sunny location,
- the soil can be moderately dry to fresh, slightly acidic to alkaline,
- optimal is deep soil with good water supply,
- intermittent drought is well tolerated.
tips
Both the crown and the roots of the small-leaved lime develop in the shape of a heart. The shape of the leaves is also reminiscent of small hearts.
