The poisonous Strelitzia, of which 5 species exist today and which is also known as the bird of paradise flower and parrot flower, is known to many from vacations in the Canary Islands or Madeira. She stands for:

It got its name from a European botanist around 1773. The botanist named the Strelizie in honor of British Queen Sophie Charlotte, who was born Princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
