Red currants are not very demanding when it comes to their location. However, in a place where the shrub feels comfortable, it will bear more fruit and suffer less from diseases. What conditions should the site meet?

The red currant does not like direct midday sun

Warm and bright but not too sunny

Red currants thrive particularly well in a warm, partially shaded location. They also like direct sun for a few hours a day - especially in the morning and evening hours.

The shrubs, on the other hand, do not tolerate hot midday sun well.

A very good location is in the semi-shade under tall trees. When planting, however, keep a sufficient planting distance. It should be at least half as wide as the mature shrub will later be tall.

tips

Red currants bloom very early. Late frosts in spring freeze the flowers. Therefore, make sure that the red currant is in a somewhat sheltered location.
