Depending on the variety, a bamboo fargesia is 1.5 m - 6 m high. The individual stalks only grow in their first year. After a few years they become quite unsightly and can easily be cut off.

The bamboo Fargesia can also grow up to six meters high

In the following year, new culms form, which continue to grow taller than the culms of the previous year until the bamboo has reached its maximum size. However, this only works if the bamboo is well nourished and watered. Fargesia do not grow as much as the black bamboo, for example, because they do not form rhizomes but clumps.

The essentials in brief:

  • maximum height: 1.5 - 6 m
  • Culm only grows in the first year
  • Growth dependent on the nutrient content of the soil
  • no formation of rhizomes

tips

Since bamboo fargesia does not form rhizomes, it does not spread uncontrollably and does not need a rhizome barrier when planting.
