Moss can be very decorative on walls and sidewalks. Most of the time, however, moss growth is not desired. This can make garden paths slippery and garden furniture unusable. A simple home remedy for removing moss is cola. How to fight moss with Cola.

The caustic phosphoric acid in cola makes it a good home remedy for moss

Remove moss from walls and sidewalks with Coke

Cola contains, among other things, phosphoric acid. This is a good moss remover (€15.29) and keeps the areas moss-free for a longer period of time. In contrast to commercially available moss removers, cola is non-toxic and can therefore also be used in organic gardens.

Even if cola contains dyes, stones and furniture will not discolour if you use the popular drink to remove moss. The concentration of the dyes is too low to cause discolouration.

However, Cola is only suitable for removing moss from small areas - preferably joints. Other measures such as scarifying the lawn or sweeping walls are more suitable for large-scale moss removal. You can tackle sidewalk joints with special joint scrapers.

How to remove moss with coke

  • Spray spot with moss with cola
  • let absorb
  • wipe or sweep away
  • rinse with clear water
  • Fill in joints with sand

Unfortunately, cola also contains a lot of sugar. The treated areas therefore become very sticky. This is not only undesirable for garden furniture, but also on paths and exposed aggregate concrete slabs. Therefore, clean all surfaces afterwards with clear water or a mild washing-up liquid.

If you have used cola to remove moss in joints, you should then sprinkle them with sand. This prevents moss from forming again.

Not suitable for large areas

Cola must be used undiluted, otherwise the concentration of phosphoric acid is too low. This home remedy is therefore not suitable for removing large areas of moss. You should only treat hard-to-reach areas or small moss coverings with Cola.

The amounts of cola required for large areas are not only relatively expensive, the drink also contains a lot of sugar. This should not penetrate the garden soil in large quantities.
