If a thunderstorm or a heavy summer rain is imminent, the non-toxic Cape daisies often feel inclined to shoot up their flowers. They want to use the power of rain and are therefore also used as a means of weather forecasting. But when exactly is the heyday?

Cape Daisies bloom twice a year

From early summer to autumn

Cape daisies bloom at the beginning of June, depending on the variety. Towards the end of June/July there is a flowering break of several weeks. After that, the second bloom begins, which can last until autumn. This is what the flowers look like:

  • daisy flowers
  • wide open
  • around
  • yellow, orange, white, pink, or purple ray florets
  • yellow, white or lilac tubular flowers

To prolong the flowering period, you should cut off the withered flowers. The flowers are also removed in autumn to prepare the Cape daisy for wintering.

tips

The flowers of the Cape daisy are well suited for vase cutting and look impressive together with lupins and delphiniums in a bouquet, for example.
