Pasque flowers have been used as a valuable remedy in herbal medicine and homeopathy for centuries. Like many plants with healing properties, the pasqueflower, which was voted Flower of the Year in 1996, contains dangerous toxins.

Pulsatilla is highly toxic
The protoanemonium contained in all plant parts of the pasque flower is very poisonous. Even touching the plant leads to painful skin irritation with blistering and swelling due to the caustic effect of the poison. Ingested, the toxin causes vomiting, abdominal cramps and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. In higher doses, Protoanemonium triggers dangerous kidney inflammation.
Furthermore, the Pulsatilla contains slightly toxic saponins, resins and tannins.
tips
The pasque flower is a protected species and should not be picked from outdoor locations, not only because of its toxicity.
