Since the diptam is a wild plant, it requires little care if it has been planted in the right location and in a suitable substrate. What care is required?

How well does the diptam tolerate dry periods?
Diptam is made for dry soil. It therefore tolerates dry periods with bravura. They shouldn't be longer lasting. Otherwise watering is required. Sporadic watering is also worthwhile in summer heat. You can use calcareous water from the tap for watering without hesitation. Dittany loves a calcareous substrate. It is poured directly onto the root area.
Does Diptam inevitably need fertilizer?
If the diptam is in the bucket, it should be fertilized two to three times between March and September (sparingly!). If it is outdoors, it is sufficient to supply it with compost once in the spring. That's enough! If you fertilize it too much, you risk putting the nutrients into developing lush foliage and not flowering.
Is a pruning necessary?
With regard to cutting, the following should be observed:
- no trimming required
- in the spring (before the new shoots) cut away the old parts from the previous year
- Cut down to 20 cm above the ground
- dead and diseased parts should be removed regularly
- do not cut during the growing season
- Don't cut off the flowers as the infructescences are ornamental
Can pests pose a threat to him?
Normally the diptam is not attacked by diseases. Only snails can make your hair stand on end. They happily eat the fresh shoots and leaves of this plant. Therefore: In the spring, make sure that the diptam does not succumb to snail damage. For example, protect it with a crop protection net for the first few weeks.
Should one share the diptam for rejuvenation?
In old age it can make sense to take a diptam. This serves on the one hand for rejuvenation and on the other hand for multiplication. After they have been dug up, the rhizomes are divided in the spring just before they sprout. Use a knife or spade for this.
tips
You should wear protective or gardening gloves, especially when cutting and propagating. Otherwise, skin irritation could occur due to the toxins contained in the diptam.
