Nettle - usable as an eco-herbicide
Fighting weeds with weeds is no utopia. It works with the stinging nettle, considered a weed by many gardeners. Take advantage of this 'weed' by harvesting it and using it to destroy other weeds in the garden.
You no longer need expensive herbicides, which not only damage your wallet but also the environment - other plants, groundwater, bees, etc. - if you rely on stinging nettles. Processed as liquid manure or decoction, it becomes a biological herbicide.
The stinging hairs make it possible
Anyone who has ever burned themselves on the stinging hairs of the stinging nettle will be careful in the future. They contain formic acid in their tips. This is the main component, which is also intended to destroy weeds such as dandelion, goutweed, field bindweed and orchard. Both the large stinging nettle, which is widespread in this country, and the small stinging nettle contain this 'poison'.
Make nettle weed killer yourself
Both a hot or cold water decoction and liquid manure made from nettles are effective against weeds. First of all, you should collect the nettles. You will find them at the edges of forests, in meadows, in gardens and along roadsides. Collect about 1 kg of this herb by cutting it off stems (wear gloves!).
This is how it goes on:
- coarsely chop the cabbage
- fill a bucket with 10 liters of water (use boiling water for hot water brews).
- add the herb and stir well
- Exposure time for one brew: 12 to 24 hours
- Exposure time for liquid manure: 1 to 2 weeks
- for liquid manure production: if necessary + 500 g rock flour (14.13€) (neutralization of the stench)
Application against weeds in the garden
- pour directly over the weed leaves
- or put in a spray bottle and spray weed leaves
- does not need to be diluted
- Effect: Leaves burn due to the acid they contain
- Manure can be diluted up to 1:10 and is still effective
tips
The stinging nettle extract or the liquid manure and the brew are also available as a bio-pesticide, e.g. B. used against aphids and whiteflies.
