In order for one of the world stars among the spice plants to do its best in the garden, the location for coriander has to be chosen carefully. The following light and temperature conditions are important. The floor should be like this:

  • sunny to semi-shady position in beds and on the balcony
  • warm temperatures above 15 degrees Celsius, without sweltering heat in summer
  • humus-rich, well-drained soil without waterlogging
  • preferably fresh and moist with a low lime content
  • protected from the beating rain and strong winds
  • ideally a loamy-sandy composition
  • Use high-quality herbal soil or a mix of potting soil and sand as substrate in the pot

If you are primarily aiming to harvest the aromatic coriander leaves, a partially shaded location is an option. In order to collect the spicy grains in autumn, a location in full sun is an advantage.
