It is the most exciting phase of sowing when hobby gardeners are waiting for germination. Who doesn't rush to the seed tray first thing in the morning to look for the little sprouts? No one can predict when this small miracle of nature will take place, because the choice of strain influences it.

The following statement can be made thanks to empirical values:

  • the average germination time for basil is 5 to 14 days
  • this period applies provided the temperature is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius
  • the seed pot is in a partially shaded location
  • the light germs must not be covered with substrate

Knowledgeable hobby gardeners create a warm, humid microclimate to encourage basil seeds to germinate. For this purpose, the seed tray is covered with a pane of glass or covered with transparent film. Daily airing is mandatory to prevent mold from forming. In addition, the seed must neither dry out nor swim in water.
