A mole may neither be caught nor killed. Repelling with gentle means is therefore the only option to get rid of a mole. Learn below if repelling moles with ultrasound is a good option and how this method can be crowned with success.

Ultrasound against moles: the disadvantages
Moles have very keen hearing - a compensation for their extremely poor sense of sight. Therefore, they hear frequencies that are inaudible to us, such as ultrasound. In practice, however, ultrasonic devices have not proven to be particularly effective. In many field reports you can read that the mole is still up to mischief. Plus, ultrasound is audible not only to moles, but also to the beneficial bats, as well as pets like cats and dogs. Since the devices often have a very low frequency range, even sensitive people can hear the beeping.
Still use ultrasound against moles?
However, if you do want to try using ultrasonic devices against a mole, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Put the devices in the aisles, not in the hills, so as not to block the escape route for the moles.
- Buy devices whose frequency varies to prevent a habituation effect.
- Place at least three, better more devices.
- Do not place the ultrasonic devices near dog kennels, house walls, playground equipment, terraces or other places.
- Combine the ultrasonic devices with other methods such as smells (buttermilk, garlic and others).
- Wait at least three weeks before counting the application as failed and canceling it. The mole doesn't give up its home easily.

The advantages of a mole
Although the mole is commonly considered a pest by lawn lovers, it is actually a beneficial one. Moles are great pest eaters, making for a healthy, pest-free garden. They also favor a well-aerated, nutrient-rich soil and thus ensure optimal soil quality. Moles do not eat plants, so they do not pose a threat to ornamental and crop plants. The better alternative: the windmill
Instead of tormenting the mole with ultrasound, you can use an equally effective but much cheaper method: the pinwheel. Here you can find out how to build your own windmill against moles.
