If the plants really start to sprout in June, you will need additional nutrients. Unfortunately, pests often attack the plants. If you garden in an ecologically compatible way, you cannot avoid plant manure during this time. In this article you will find out how you can prepare and apply the agent yourself.

Nettle manure is a great fertilizer and prevents pests

What is special about manure?

First of all, plant manure serves to improve the soil naturally, because the fermentation of the plant material releases nitrogen, nutrients and trace elements. Not only plants like tomatoes and cabbage, which like a nitrogen-rich additional fertilization during the vegetation period, benefit from the fast-acting fertilizer.

In addition, the ingredients in the liquid manure attract useful garden helpers such as earthworms. Depending on the herb used, it prevents fungal diseases and, when sprayed, kills off pests such as aphids.

Which plants are suitable for the production of plant manure?

plant mode of action
Comfrey Comfrey manure is very suitable as a fertilizer for root-forming plants such as potatoes, carrots, salsify and radishes because of its potassium content.
nettle Nettle manure is effective against aphids, spider mites and whiteflies. Excellent plant strengthener.
elder leaves Drives away voles, poured into the aisles.
rhubarb Sprayed on the ground has a repellent effect against snails. Also effective against aphids and leek moths.
dandelion immune boosting. Promotes the activity of microorganisms living in the soil.
garlic and onion Increases resistance to fungal diseases. Also used to prevent late blight and late blight. Poured on top of the carrot greens, it prevents the carrot fly from laying eggs.
vermouth Helps against ants, lice and rust fungi.
fern Very effective against aphids.

Basic recipe for plant manure

ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh or 200 g dried wild herbs
  • 10 liters of water, preferably rainwater
  • 2 handfuls of bedrock flour

Utils

  • Sufficiently large containers made of plastic, clay or wood
  • Cover in the form of a grid or lid
  • stick for stirring

Metal vessels are unsuitable as the chemical reaction will disrupt fermentation.

manufacturing

  1. Put the coarsely chopped plant material into the fermentation vessel.
  2. Douse with the water.
  3. Sprinkle rock flour (14.13€) that reduces the odor load.
  4. Place in a warm, sunny spot. Here the fermentation process begins within 48 hours. You can recognize this by the formation of foam.
  5. Since oxygenation promotes fermentation, stir daily.

After about two weeks, fermentation is complete. The liquid manure now has a dark color and no longer foams.

Use of the plant manure

The liquid manure is diluted in a ratio of 1:10 before spreading. Pour the fertilizer in the root area around the plants, preferably in the early morning or evening. Avoid wetting the leaves as the high nutrient content could damage them.

For spraying, dilute the plant manure in a ratio of 1:50 and apply the filtered agent with a sprayer, preferably on a rain-free but cloudy day.

tips

Plant manure is also an excellent activator for the compost heap.
