The easy-care elephant ear (Haemanthus albiflos) is not hardy. Therefore, in our latitudes, it is not well suited as a year-round outdoor plant, but better as a houseplant. During the winter months, give your elephant ear a hibernation.

In winter, the elephant ear only needs a little water

In winter, your elephant ear needs very little water and no fertilizer. If the substrate dries up very much, water the plant immediately. Make sure there is sufficient humidity to prevent spider mite infestation. The ideal temperature in the winter quarters is around 12 °C to 15 °C.
