Homemade apple rings from the oven are a healthy, sugar-free snack for the whole family. Freshly dried, they also taste much better than the finished products from the supermarket. That's why the little effort is not only worthwhile for all those who can harvest crunchy apples in the garden.

This is how the apple rings become crispy
So that the apple slices can be dried, you must first wash the apples, which should preferably come from organic farming, well. They don't have to be peeled because the peel is particularly aromatic. It also contains a lot of fiber, which has a positive effect on digestion.
Remove the core with an apple corer and cut the fruit in half. The slices will be very even if you then cut the fruit thinly with a cucumber slicer or the food processor. If you prefer crisp apple slices, the pieces should not be too thick.
To keep the dried fruit a nice colour, you can sprinkle lemon on it. If you like it a little sweeter, you can add a little sugar:
- Boil sugar to taste with lemon juice and water.
- Let the soup cool down.
- Briefly put the apple slices in it.
Dry apple slices in the dehydrator
This method is very straightforward. Since the fruit is dried at a low temperature, vitamins and nutrients are largely retained.
method
- Distribute the prepared apple slices on the drying racks so that they do not touch.
- Assemble the device and dry the fruit for six to eight hours at 42 degrees.
Dry apple slices in the oven
If you only occasionally want to produce dried fruit yourself, it is not worth buying a special device. You can also easily dry the apple rings in the oven. Make several sheets at once, this saves energy.
method
- Cover the baking trays with parchment paper and arrange the fruit on it so that they do not touch.
- Close the flap and insert a wooden spoon between the oven and the door. This allows the moisture to escape.
- The apple slices become particularly crisp when you switch on the lowest temperature, usually 50 degrees, from the top and bottom heat. Drying takes about seven hours.
Dry apple slices in the sun
If you want to save energy and have enough space in a sunny place, you can dry the apple slices outdoors. The prepared apples are placed on grids and covered with a cloth. Alternatively, you can thread the pieces onto string and hang them up.
Make sure that the apple slices do not touch each other. This is the only way for them to dry evenly.
Place the drying racks in a weather-protected place. Drying outdoors takes between two and seven days, depending on weather conditions.
Darren in the microwave
Only small portions of apple slices can be dried in the microwave oven. This variant is therefore more suitable if you want to quickly make a tasty snack for the TV evening, for example.
method
- Lay the apple slices side by side on a plate and place in the microwave.
- Heat on full power for about a minute or two.
- Open the door to allow the moisture to escape.
- Set the microwave to the lowest level and let it run for 15 minutes until the desired crispiness is reached.
tips
The dried apples become particularly aromatic if you sprinkle them with a little cinnamon before drying.
