If you have an apple tree in the garden, you can hardly save yourself from fruit in good harvest years. You can also make delicious apple juice yourself without a juicer. Filled in sterile bottles, the juice keeps for a long time. Alternatively, you can freeze it to preserve all the valuable ingredients.

Too much fresh apple juice? - Freezing is a solution

make apple juice

First wash the fruit, core it and remove all rotten parts generously. Then weigh the fruit: two kilos of apples make about one liter of apple juice.

  • Cut the apples into small pieces and boil them in a little water until soft.
  • Blend everything with a blender or blender.
  • Squeeze the applesauce through a cheesecloth, cheesecloth, or nut milk bag.
  • Season with a little sugar or lemon juice if you like.

Alternatively, you can make the apple juice with a juicer. For this, too, the fruit must be washed thoroughly and all damaged areas cut out. Pass the apples through the device and catch the apple juice.

Freeze apple juice

Since the fresh juice has to be refrigerated and even then it can only be kept for a few days, it must then be preserved. Freezing is a good idea because you don't have to sterilize the apple juice for this. This preserves all vitamins and minerals.

  • Immediately after juicing, fill the juice into very stable freezer bags. Filling is easier if you place the bags in a tall, stable container, such as a coffee pot or teapot.
  • Ice cube makers or ice cube bags are also well suited. The juice frozen in this way can be removed very conveniently in portions.
  • Breast milk containers are ideal for freezing juices. They are food-safe, non-toxic and suitable for freezing. They are also elastic, which is an advantage since the liquid expands when it freezes.
  • If you want to freeze large amounts of juice, plastic cans are very practical. The rectangular shape makes them easy to stack, so that the space in the freezer is used optimally.
  • To thaw, simply put the cubes in a glass. Since the apple juice you make yourself is much more aromatic than many store-bought juices, you can dilute it with mineral water to make a delicious spritzer.
  • Larger quantities can be thawed particularly gently in the refrigerator.

tips

Opened apple juice (mother juice) that you do not use within a few days can also be preserved by freezing.
