Many plants can easily be propagated by cuttings. It can be helpful to use rooting powder, which shortens the rooting process and helps the seedling to develop strong roots quickly. If you would like to do without the chemical preparations that can be purchased, you can use various natural means with which the same results can be achieved.

There are several supplements that work just as well as root powder

The following remedies have proven themselves:

  • willow water,
  • Apple Cider Vinegar,
  • Honey,
  • Aspirin,
  • aloe vera juice,
  • Yeast.

All of these preparations are available in the household anyway or can be made inexpensively at home.

willow water

Willow branches contain large amounts of auxins, which have a positive effect on cell division. Willow Water is made as follows:

  1. Cut fresh, young willow twigs, no more than a pencil thick, and cut into pieces about ten centimeters long.
  2. Boil 3 liters of water in a large saucepan and add the twigs.
  3. Leave for a day.
  4. Strain into clean glass bottles.
  5. The mixture will keep in a cool place for about two months.
  6. To use, transfer to a vase and place the cuttings in for a few hours.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Add a teaspoon of vinegar to a liter of water and briefly dip the cuttings in the solution. This prevents fungal growth and supports the plant in root formation.

honey

Honey is rich in vitamins and contains enzymes that can stimulate root growth. It also has antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Dissolve one to two teaspoons of honey in a liter of warm water. Soak the cuttings in the liquid for half a day, and then plant the seedlings.

aspirin

The tablets, like willow branches, contain salicylic acid, but not phytohormones. Therefore, the young plants are only strengthened and there is a certain protection against possible pathogens.

It is important that you only use uncoated tablets. Put one pill in a glass of water and wait for the preparation to completely dissolve. Place the plants to be rooted in the aspirin water for a few hours, and then place the seedlings in a vase of clear water.

Aloe vera juice

Aloe juice is known for its antiseptic and healing effects, which you can take advantage of when developing roots. Put a tablespoon of pure aloe vera juice in a vase filled with water. Put the cuttings in and let them root in the aloe water. The seedlings form strong roots in about a week and can be transplanted into soil.

yeast

Dissolve 100 grams of dry yeast in warm water and place the cuttings in the solution for a few hours. The yeast contains substances that accelerate root formation.

tips

For cuttings that are difficult to root, you can use potatoes as a root activator. First remove any sprouts from the tuber, drill a hole and insert the cutting. The seedling buried with the potato will begin to root within two weeks.
