Orchids, including the Phalaenopsis, are often considered to be high-maintenance. This assumption is not so wrong. After all, the butterfly orchid, as the Phalaenopsis is often called, reacts relatively sensitively to the wrong location or incorrect care.

Yellow leaves are often due to care errors

Why are the leaves turning yellow?

If the leaves of the Phalaenopsis become limp and/or yellow, the first thing you should do is check the water supply. Have you perhaps watered the orchid too much? Although it needs a relatively large amount of water during the growth phase, it does not tolerate waterlogging at all. Fertilizer errors or a pest infestation can also be the cause of yellow leaves.

Possible causes of yellow leaves:

  • too much, too little or wrong fertilizer
  • wrong watering
  • too low humidity
  • wrong temperature
  • diseases or pests

tips

In a warm, airy location without direct sun or draughts, the Phalaenopsis thrives quite well without much care.
