If you have a lot of space to offer, you can also plant the plane tree in your own garden. Alternatively, the pruning-compatible tree can be brought into the desired shape with the pruning shears. The tree is always attractive and easy to care for.

If you want a plane tree in your garden, you need one thing above all: space

Location and the space factor

The plane tree likes sunny places, but would also be content with partial shade. She makes no special demands on the soil. It may be loamy or sandy, slightly acidic or slightly alkaline. Most plane tree species grow very tall. A crown width of up to 25 m and a height of 30 m are not uncommon among plane trees.

The chosen place should therefore be far away from walls and other large trees. Also keep in mind that the root system develops even wider than the crown.

tips

The spherical plane tree "Alphens Globe" is well suited for smaller gardens. Its growth is rapid at 20-30 cm per year, but it ends up reaching a maximum height of around 5 m.

Young tree and planting

Plane trees can be propagated well with sticks. Seed propagation takes longer and only works in exceptional cases with hybrid varieties. It is easier to buy in a construction school. A steep price is demanded for larger specimens, for which they received the first topiary. This makes it easier for non-professionals to take further cutting measures.

The following points are important for planting:

  • plant in warm spring
  • Loosen the soil well and mix with compost
  • create a drainage layer of gravel
  • Tie tree to support post
  • water well for the first few weeks

design shapes

Already at the beginning of the planting you should decide what shape the crown of the plane tree should have. The basis for this is laid with the first cut. The sycamore can be shaped into a standard tree as well as into the popular roof sycamore.

Necessary care

Once the tree has grown well, there is no further care waiting for you apart from cutting. Only in very dry summers should the tree get water from the garden hose.
