Unfortunately, the Rhodohypoxis, also known as the grass star, is not hardy. However, you can still enjoy the delicate blooms in the second spring if you follow our overwintering guide.

The Rhodohypoxis is not hardy

site conditions in winter

The Rhodohypoxis must not be exposed to frosty temperatures. If you are cultivating your grass star outdoors (popular locations are for example watersides), you will unfortunately have to go to the trouble of digging up the delicate flower cushions and transplanting them into a pot.
However, cultivation as a bonsai is also popular, in which overwintering is completely uncomplicated. How to proceed:

  • Put Rhodohypoxis in a cold place (ideally overwinter in the basement)
  • Stop watering by February
  • then water every two weeks

Note: Rhodohypoxise originate from warm South Africa, but have largely become accustomed to the European climate.
