Purple loosestrife usually flowers from June

Purple loosestrife flowers in summer

In June, the crimson flower clusters of the purple loosestrife appear in small partial inflorescences, the so-called dichasias. At this time, the perennials on bank edges or on damp meadows shine towards them. Insects also enjoy the nectar-rich flowers.

Note: There are different breeds of purple loosestrife. For some species, the flowering period is limited to July and August.

Post-flowering care

When loosestrife has withered, tiny seeds are stored in the withered parts of the plant. The perennial uses this to multiply over a large area by birds or the wind. If you want to prevent uncontrolled spread, remove all faded parts of the plant.
