Planted in groups, chocolate flowers create a wonderful visual effect. Now it is up to you whether you decorate your entire bed with purchased specimens or whether you dare to multiply yourself. Thanks to our instructions, you can do the latter with ease.

time
Spring is the best time to propagate the chocolate flower. This applies in particular to sowing. You also have other options to choose from, which you can tackle all year round.
Various methods
The chocolate flower can be propagated with the following methods:
- sowing
- cuttings
- division
Propagation by seed
The most important thing when sowing is to consider the appropriate soil conditions. The following substrates have proven themselves for the potting soil:
- Mixture of sand and seed soil
- Mixture of earth and perlite
- coconut fibers
In addition, the soil should be low in nutrients and very permeable to prevent waterlogging.
Scatter the seeds lightly over the substrate and gently press them into the soil. You must then keep the substrate permanently moist, whereby standing water in the growing pots must be avoided. During the germination period, the chocolate flower does not tolerate direct sun. This is around 3 to 6 weeks and depends primarily on the environmental conditions. In order to optimize the location factors, cover the seed pots (€16.68) with an air-permeable film. However, the resulting high humidity quickly leads to mold growth. Therefore, air the foil daily.
Note: Unfortunately, you cannot take seeds from your own chocolate flower. You have to buy the seeds in specialist shops.
Propagation via cuttings
Taking cuttings from the mother plant and planting them elsewhere in moist soil is probably the easiest method of propagation. However, your chocolate flower should make a strong impression for this.
propagation by division
The third option is division. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Lift root ball out of the ground
- carefully separate individual sections
- each part should have several roots and leaves
- It is best to take sections from the young growth
- Put the removed root parts in the ground
- Press the substrate lightly
- pour on
Note: Be careful that the roots of the chocolate flower are very delicate.
