General information about the appearance of martens
Martens that appear near people are almost always stone martens. It has bristly fur that is grey-brown in color with a white bib that extends from neck to feet. They have small, protruding, round ears and a rounded, pointed nose. Beech martens are often out and about at dusk or at night and live in caves, walls, barns or in the attic.
Differences in size depending on gender
In technical jargon, male martens are called males and female martens are called males. In terms of size, there are significant differences between the two sexes: while male martens can grow up to 90cm tall (including the tail) and weigh up to 2.5kg, the male martens, i.e. the female martens, remain somewhat smaller and only grow up to 1 .5 kg heavy.
Tail and body length of stone martens
Beech martens have a fairly long tail that can measure up to 30cm. The trunk is on average 40 to 60 cm long. The tail is bushy, completely grey-brown and tapering at the tip.

marten babies
When they are born, the martens are just 15cm tall and weigh 30g. They are blind for five weeks and remain dependent on their mother for several months. If this is killed or captured during this time, the young die miserably. The size of the pine marten
Pine martens are only slightly smaller than their relatives: their head body length (body length without tail) is 45 to 58 centimeters; the tail is also slightly shorter at 16 to 28 cm. This means that pine martens have a total length of 61 to 86 cm. In this case, too, the females are slightly smaller than the males and up to a third lighter.
