Since it stays a little smaller than its relatives, the dwarf date palm is very popular as an attractive houseplant. During the summer months it is grateful for a sunny, warm place on the balcony or terrace. Not hardy and relatively sensitive to cold, however, it has to move to a suitable location in winter.

Hibernation of the dwarf date palm
If the outside temperatures fall below 15 degrees for a long time, you should bring the palm tree back into the house:
- A bright spot in the conservatory or living room is ideal.
- Since the dwarf date palm tolerates cooler temperatures during the rest phase, you can alternatively overwinter it in a light-flooded stairwell.
- Water the plant moderately. However, the root ball should not dry out completely.
- There is no need to fertilize during this time.
tips
Since the fronds of the palm tree attract dust, you should wipe them regularly with a damp cloth. It is also recommended to spray the leaves daily with distilled water to ensure sufficient humidity. This successfully prevents spider mites and other vermin infestations.
