Real chanterelles are also called chanterelles and are among the most popular edible mushrooms in Central Europe. The false chanterelle (Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca), which looks similar to it, is also known as the orange-yellow fork leaf and should not be eaten.

Distinguishing the different species
The real chanterelles also have lamellae on the underside of the cap, but the rim of the cap is not as pronounced as that of the false chanterelle. Beginners should definitely get help from a connoisseur to clearly identify it, since eating false chanterelles can lead to stomach problems.
