If you plant raspberries in the garden, you need to provide a framework. Otherwise the rods tend to settle on the ground. The shrubs can be kept in particularly good shape on a trellis.

Pull raspberries on a trellis
Raspberry bushes form many rods. However, if too many shoots grow on a plant, the individual canes and fruits do not get enough light and sun.
The rods are therefore attached to a frame so that they are not too close together and are better exposed to the sun.
On the trellis you have optimal opportunities to tie the rods next to each other so that the plants do not get too sprawling.
Suitable materials for trellis
- Cross-stretched wire cords
- chain link mesh
- node grid
The classic trellis method
It is particularly suitable for summer raspberries. To do this, dig a sturdy stake in the ground at each end of the row of raspberries. For very long rows, set several pillars.
Stretch wire between the pillars at different heights.
Plant the raspberries 50 centimeters apart in front of the trellis and spread out the canes. Attach the sturdiest rods to the wire lines. Cut off weak shoots.
Trellis for autumn raspberries
A fall raspberry trellis can be made from plain chicken wire ($14.99) or knot lattice used in construction.
You will install four mounting posts, two at each end of a row. Connect the two posts with a crossbeam. Attach the chicken wire or knot grid to the crossbeams.
The autumn raspberries can now simply grow through the openings in the wire mesh or trellis. Again, don't leave too many rods per plant.
Provide sturdy trellises
Bearing raspberry canes can develop considerable weight. Make sure the trellis construction is strong enough to support the weight.
tips and tricks
Raspberries are well suited to growing them on the trellis on the house wall. Since they do not form their own tendrils, the masonry is not affected. However, you must ensure that air can circulate between the wall and the plant to prevent fungal diseases from spreading.
