Many types of fruit are now available in the food trade almost all year round from growing areas around the world. Forest blueberries picked from wild forest stands, on the other hand, are only available fresh from regional stocks in midsummer.

Snack on vitamin-rich berries all summer long

Forest blueberries can be picked fresh from the low blueberry bushes in the forest in the period from late June to late August. During midsummer, new fruits with a deep dark blue color continuously ripen, which are suitable for the following types of use:

  • fresh consumption after washing
  • preserving jams and juices
  • freezing for the winter

Use the hunt for blueberries to cool down

Even with a so-called blueberry comb, harvesting wild blueberries in the forest can become very hard work. On the other hand, these have a much more intense taste than the commercially grown varieties of cultivated blueberries. At the same time, the walks in the forest can be used as a welcome cooling off in the summer heat.

tips and tricks

The summer season of forest blueberries can be easily extended by freezing and preserving, as this hardly loses any of the flavor nuances.
