The taste and color of the wild forest blueberries in Europe are quite different from the cultivated blueberries, which were bred from American blueberry species and produce larger fruits.

Summery fruit enjoyment from nature
Forest blueberries can usually be collected directly in the forest from around the end of June to the end of August. Depending on the weather in spring and early summer, this period can also be pushed back or forward by about one to two weeks. As blueberries do not ripen later, you should only pick them when they are dark blue in colour. Due to their limited shelf life, you should process forest blueberries that are not intended for fresh consumption as quickly as possible:
- by boiling it into jams
to juices - to refined liqueur creations
- as a fruit component in cakes
Be quick when enjoying fruit
Especially when harvesting with a blueberry comb, individual forest blueberries can easily tear open on their thin skin. These should be sorted out when washing, otherwise they greatly increase the susceptibility to mold of all collected blueberries.
