How to prepare the coconut for freezing

Also, use the freshest possible coconut for freezing. Drill the softest of the three germination holes and remove the coconut water. You can drink it just like that or use it for cooking or baking. Then open the coconut with the help of a hammer.

After opening the coconut, scoop out the flesh from the shell. To do this, use a kitchen knife. A brown skin is still attached to the flesh. Although this is certainly edible, it is not nice to look at in every dish. However, it can easily be removed with a potato peeler.

Now grate the pulp of your coconut with a kitchen grater. Coarse rasps are suitable for most uses. Shredders that are too fine tend to clump together and stick to the sieve when thawed. They also lose their taste more easily than coarse graters.

Thaw the coconut flakes

To thaw, it is best to put the coconut flakes in a sieve and catch the escaping liquid in a bowl. You can easily use these for baking or cooking, but you may then need fewer other liquids. Don't leave your shredded coconut in the freezer or freezer for too long. Since they are very fatty, they could otherwise go rancid.

How do you use frozen coconut?

You can defrost the coconut flakes and then use them like fresh flakes. Only the raw enjoyment is not necessarily recommended, since the taste of the fresh coconut is of course much better.
