Lovingly tended vines deliver a rich harvest in autumn. What you don't eat fresh should be stored properly. We explain how the sweet berries stay fresh for a long time.

In this way, grapes remain appetizing for up to 14 days

When the weather is good, the grape season extends from August to December. This applies equally to white, red and blue varieties. Since table grapes are among the non-climacteric types of fruit, they do not ripen afterward. As a result, they can be harvested when they are fully ripe and taste incomparably good when eaten fresh. Anyone who cannot eat their home-grown grapes all at once should ideally store them like this:

  • Can be stored at room temperature in the fruit basket for 4-5 days
  • fill the fruit unwashed in a fresh food bag or a Tupperware
  • deposited in the refrigerator at 4-5 degrees Celsius, the shelf life is extended to 14 days

When cooled, the grapes lose their aroma. Therefore, take the berries out of the fridge about 20 minutes before consumption to wash them and bring them to room temperature for carefree enjoyment.

Grapes are stored in the freezer

The shelf life is extended up to 6 months if you freeze grapes. Unlike many other fruits, grapes don't go mushy after thawing. How to do it right:

  • Place the grapes in a sieve and wash them under running water
  • pat dry with a cloth or kitchen paper
  • Spread the berries out on a baking sheet or plate so they are not touching
  • Sprinkle with a little sugar to taste
  • Freeze in the quick freezer for 5-6 hours

Once frozen, the grapes are excellent for immediate use as a snack or as ice cubes in drinks. Alternatively, fill the fruit into a freezer bag to save space in the freezer for several months. Of course, the frozen grapes are not suitable for small children. Due to the smooth shell, they could get stuck in the throat.
