Fungal diseases affect plants that are weak and growing in a location that is not conducive to them and harbors too high a moisture content in the air. In order to avoid diseases in the lovage, a suitable location should be chosen from the outset.

Best location for sowing
When sowing lovage, the right location is important to achieve success. The place should be warm (at least 20 °C) and bright.
If you prefer lovage at home in a pot or in a seed tray, place the container near a heater, e.g. B. on the bright window sill in the living room or in the kitchen. In the kitchen in particular, it is usually warm and the humidity is high due to cooking.
Location preferences outdoors and in pots
Once the plants have grown, they need a location in full sun to partial shade. The maggi herb prefers to grow outdoors in the blazing sun and in a pot on the balcony in a south-east or south-west position. Ideally, the site is in a sheltered location.
What should the soil be like?
Deep soil is important as lovage develops a long and thick rhizome. Furthermore, the floor should have the following characteristics:
- slightly acidic to slightly alkaline
- high nutrient content
- rich in humus
- permeable
- sandy-loamy to loamy
- fresh to damp (avoid waterlogging and dryness!)
- likes calcareous
tips and tricks
In winter, you don't need to worry about your maggiweed. It is fully hardy - it tolerates temperatures down to -20 °C without any problems.
