Location selection and soil conditions play a very important role in the care of peppermint. The place must be neither too dark nor too sunny, as the peppermint aroma only develops under optimal conditions. The soil must be loose and nutrient-rich.

The optimal location for peppermint is such that the plant is very bright, but direct sunlight is avoided.
Peppermint essential oils only develop properly when the soil is warm but not overheated. Excessive heat, such as that produced by direct sunlight, burns the oil. If the ground is too cool, for example due to a windy location, the oil can only develop insufficiently.
The right soil condition
Peppermint grows in almost any soil, as long as it provides enough nutrients and is not too wet. You should improve a depleted location with compost before sowing or planting. Otherwise, occasionally add some organic fertilizer.
Peppermint does not tolerate waterlogging at all. The soil must therefore be permeable to water. Firm clay soils are not suitable for peppermint. Sometimes it helps to loosen up heavy, compacted soil by adding sand.
Location on the balcony
If you grow your peppermint in a pot on the balcony, place the bucket in partial shade and protected from the wind. Here, too, you should ensure that the floor does not heat up too much due to direct sunlight.
tips and tricks
Peppermint doesn't like to be too crowded. Keep enough distance to other plants. This allows the air to circulate better and the formation of mildew or pest infestation is significantly reduced.
