Which species of spider plants are suitable for the living room?

The spider plant, which originated in South Africa, has been used as a houseplant in Europe since around the end of the 19th century. In principle, all types are suitable for this. Make sure that the plant has enough space, because the long, narrow leaves come into their own when hanging. If they hit a substrate, the tips can turn brown.

The offshoots form on hanging shoots, they can be up to 70 cm long depending on the species. This gives your spider plant a lush and exotic look. The plant looks particularly beautiful in a decorative traffic light. If you leave all the offshoots on the plant, it will of course need more water and possibly some fertilizer.

The Different Species of Spider Plants

The wild form of the spider plant has plain green leaves. The species "Chlorophytum comosum" is considered to be the most widespread species. The variety "Manaianum" forms particularly small leaves with a length of 10 to 15 cm. They are dark green with a yellow center stripe. They are also suitable for smaller rooms. The Chlorophytum amaniense variety with its bronze-colored leaves is also very decorative.
