Autumn anemones are only really hardy when they have been in the same place for at least two years. The perennials should be planted in spring so that enough roots can form. Autumn anemones planted outdoors in autumn almost never survive the first winter.

Plant autumn anemones in spring
As with bulb anemones, spring is the best time to plant fall anemones.
The long taproots of the Anemone hupehensis then have enough time to develop and also to cope with low temperatures.
In the first winter, the perennial must be protected from excessive frost with winter protection.
tips and tricks
If you want to take root cuttings from the Anemone hupehensis, August is a good time to do so. The cuttings must be grown in pots over the winter and may only be planted outdoors the following year.
