The spider plant originally comes from South Africa and has adapted to the local climate. It does not tolerate frost and is therefore not suitable for year-round planting in the garden. But it is the ideal houseplant for watering and care muffle.

There are the spider plants in different sizes and different colors. The wild form is plain green, other species have light central stripes ranging in color from white to cream to yellow. A spider plant with bronze-colored leaves is very decorative and something special. Depending on the species, the leaf length varies from about 10 cm to a proud 40 cm. In this way, the perfect spider plant can be found for almost every location.

How to care for a spider plant in winter?

At temperatures below 10 °C the spider plant practically hibernates and stops growing. If it is in the unheated winter garden, then make sure that this room remains frost-free. Check the moisture in the soil before watering, because your spider plant needs a little less water when the temperature is low. Only fertilize your spider plant once a month or do without it altogether.

If your spider plant is in a well-heated living room, then you don't have to treat this plant any differently in winter than in summer. Water and fertilize as usual. However, since the air in the room is often particularly dry in winter due to the heating, treat your spider plant to a small spray shower with low-lime, lukewarm water from time to time.

The most important care tips in winter:

  • protect against frost
  • in the well-heated living room no change in care
  • spray occasionally
  • Water and fertilize less in the cool conservatory

tips and tricks

In the warm living room you treat your spider plant as usual, only in a cool location it needs less water and fertilizer than in the warm summer months.
