Forsythia is one of the flowering ornamental shrubs that dog owners can plant without hesitation. Forsythia contains slightly toxic substances in all parts of the plant. However, they only cause symptoms if the dog eats large amounts of them.

Forsythia contains saponins, glycosides and essential oils. If the dog ingests large amounts of it, for example because it likes to chew on sticks, slight symptoms such as diarrhea can set in.
Be careful when cutting the forsythia
Many dogs like to play with cut branches. When you prune your forsythia, position the branches in a way that the dog cannot gnaw on them.
With young dogs, it makes sense to sweep up fallen flowers and leaves before the animals are allowed into the garden.
