Similar to dahlias, chrysanthemum flowers come in many different shapes and colors. There are large and small flowers, single, semi-double or double. Some varieties flower like a pompom, others have spider- or anemone-shaped flowers. But whatever the structure of the individual flowers, they all have one thing in common: they only appear in late summer or even in autumn, when other flowers have long since faded.

Cultivated chrysanthemums flower from late summer to autumn

Chrysanthemums have a long flowering period

However, the exact flowering time depends on the type and variety of chrysanthemum. Some varieties flower comparatively early, starting in August, while others only open their buds in September or even October. However, all chrysanthemums bloom for a very long time - sometimes for months well into November - and in this way provide a few splashes of color in the dreary autumn. However, the wild forms of the chrysanthemum are all early flowering.

tips and tricks

You can extend the flowering period of chrysanthemum bushes by immediately cutting off faded flowers. However, be careful not to cut too deep - the fresh flower buds are located directly under the old flower.
