Avocados and their healthy ingredients are literally on everyone's lips. However, one part of these special fruits is ignored by most and simply thrown away: the avocado stone. It is edible - and not only that: it even contains more nutrients than the pulp. In our guide we explain how you can dry and use avocado seeds.

How to properly dry avocado seeds
- Take an avocado seed and a sharp knife.
- Remove any remaining pulp from the core.
- Carefully peel off the thin skin from the avocado pit.
- Cut the core into pieces.
- Place the pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Place the sheet protected on the terrace, balcony or in the garden.
- Allow the core pieces to air dry for one to three days.
Tips:
- If the skin is difficult to remove, simply soak the core in water for a few minutes. After that, it should pull off easily.
- Once the skin is removed, the avocado pit is relatively soft and can easily be sliced thinly. So you don't need any violence or great effort here.
- The pieces may well turn dark orange as they dry. This is nothing to worry about, it is perfectly normal. The substances in the core oxidize in the air - a natural process.
- You don't necessarily have to let the core pieces air dry. Alternatively, you can roast them at a low temperature in the oven or in a pan. In addition, a dehydrator is well suited.
Use dried avocado seeds
When the avocado core pieces are completely dry, you should grind them into graters or powder - this works wonderfully with a kitchen grater or a hand coffee grinder. Then let the grated avocado seeds obtained in this way or the resulting powder dry a little.
Enjoy grated or powdered avocado seeds
The rasp and the powder made from dried avocado seeds taste nutty and can be used very creatively and variably in the kitchen. We have a few ideas for you:
- Prepare a tea with grated avocado seeds that stimulates your metabolic activities. To do this, pour hot water over a slightly heaped teaspoon. Let the whole thing steep for a few minutes before you consume the tea including the shavings.
- You can use avocado powder to refine porridges, smoothies, salad dressings and other dishes. But be careful: the taste is a bit bitter, so you should use the powder sparingly.
