With its lush abundance of flowers, the easy-to-care-for Weigela is a real eye-catcher, whether you are planting a small dwarf Weigela, such as the "All Summer Red" variety, or the rather tall Weigelia Bristol Ruby.

A weigela is not poisonous, so it is also well suited for a family garden. However, it is considered inedible and does not count as a useful plant. The flowers are also not suitable for consumption and should therefore not be used as a decoration on dishes.
What should I consider when planting Weigela?
The lush blooms of a weigela come into their own when the plant has enough space. It should be in the sun if possible, although it also thrives in a partially shaded location. The more light it gets, the more beautiful and lush a weigela will bloom. In the shade, flowering is very sparse or your weigela will not bloom at all.
The weigela also looks wonderful in a hedge. There it can be easily combined with other plants and provides a colorful variety in the green. The varieties that remain small are the most suitable for planting in a bucket. A high-growing Weigela like the Bristol Ruby needs special care there and possibly a special cut.
The essentials in brief:
- non-toxic
- inedible
- suitable for family gardens
tips
Although the weigela is not suitable for consumption, it is not poisonous either. Don't expect any permanent damage once a bud ends up in your mouth.
