Roasted peanuts are as much a part of TV evenings as they are of after-work beers in the pub. Children like to snack on the sweet variants in between meals. Instead of resorting to the sometimes expensive products in the supermarket, you should try roasting peanuts yourself and seasoning them to your taste.

Roast peanuts in the oven
First, buy peanuts that have already been shelled and blanched. Of course you can also use unshelled peanuts. However, you must then peel them after roasting and before consumption.
- Preheat your oven to 150 degrees.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the peanuts on it. The nuts should lie loosely next to each other.
- Slide the tray into the oven on the middle shelf and bake the nuts for about an hour. Unpeeled peanuts require a little more time.
- When the peanuts are browned to the desired level, remove the tray from the oven.
- The nuts are still very hot and must be allowed to cool before eating.
Roast the peanuts in the pan
It is best to use peanuts that have already been shelled. Take a coated pan and heat it on the stove without fat. Add the nuts and toast, turning frequently, about 20 minutes. Don't forget to stir, the nuts will burn quickly in the pan and taste bitter.
season roasted peanuts
While the peanuts are still warm, you can season them to your liking. The hot nuts absorb the seasoning well. Let your creativity take over your mind and body.
Examples of spice nuts
- Peanuts with chili or barbecue seasoning taste particularly hearty
- coarse sea salt as a classic variant
- Chayenne pepper or wasabi powder make the nuts really hot
- with smoked paprika powder it gets fiery in Hungarian
Of course you can also use ready-made spice mixtures from the trade and thus produce very unusual spice nuts.
Lovers of sweet nuts sprinkle their roasted peanuts with sugar and cinnamon, for example. Seasoned like this, they go well with mulled wine. Vanilla sugar, orange or lemon sugar are also suitable for sprinkling. A pinch of speculoos spice in sugar makes it Christmassy.
Roasted peanuts also taste delicious if you cover them with a glaze before roasting. A butter-honey mixture is suitable for this, for example. Heat about 1 tablespoon honey and 1 tablespoon butter together in a large saucepan. Mix both together well and remove the pot from the stove. Add the peanuts and mix thoroughly.
Now continue the roasting process in the oven as described. The glaze dries while roasting and gives the peanuts a wonderfully sweet and buttery taste.
