Quinoa, the rice-like, tasty and versatile Inca grain from South America, is becoming more and more popular in German cuisine. Since the time for cooking is often limited, the important question arises as to whether quinoa can also be stored and frozen well.

Quinoa, a healthy staple
Although the small grains are similar to cereals, they are not. Botanically, they belong to the goosefoot family, like spinach, for example.
The pseudo grain has valuable ingredients that have a positive effect on our metabolism.

Quinoa is versatile and tastes really delicious. Since it contains no gluten, it forms an excellent food base for allergy sufferers. Inca grain has also become firmly established in vegetarian and vegan cuisine.
Quinoa is boiled and served as an accompaniment to meat or fish, but also mixed with vegetables. Here it is important to know how and for how long processed quinoa can be stored.
Storing Quinoa
Dried quinoa will keep in an airtight container in a dry, dark place for two to three years. Look at the best before date on the packaging.
Once quinoa has been cooked, store leftovers in an airtight container in your refrigerator. It stays here for about a week. In no case should you leave the cooked grains at room temperature for more than two hours. There is a risk of mold growth.
A good way to store quinoa is to freeze it.
Freeze quinoa
If you need something quick after a long day at work and you don't feel like cooking fresh quinoa, it is advisable to use frozen grains. Pre-cook large quantities of the delicious Inka grain at a suitable time and then freeze it in portions. Use suitable freezer boxes or bags for this. Quinoa should not come into contact with oxygen in the freezer, as this could result in freezer burn and a significant loss of flavor. Quinoa can easily be stored in the freezer for about eight months.
